On Tuesday, September 6, 2023, Ms. Masset, Recreation Supervisor, Mr. Breidenstein, Town Board liaison to the Recreation Department, and individuals from the West Seneca Swims community group met today to begin the discussion for the timeline for success to re-open the town pool at Veterans Park in 2023. Some of the important topics discussed today included:

• Updating the town website with recreation commission member email addresses
• Affording time for the next town board meeting to present a public update.
• A discussion of opening the pool earlier and possibly closing later to coincide better with community days and the Labor Day holiday for opening and closure dates.
• Make sure these changes are reflected in the proposed town budget for 2023.
• Begin discussions on revising the handbook to address concerns about openings, and closures due to weather.
• Discuss recruitment efforts to attract more lifeguard applicants.
• Partner with the local schools to offer lifeguard training and you have a better pipeline for recruitment of lifeguards, supervising lifeguards, and head lifeguard
• Clarify the number of required lifeguards and titles based on the size of the pool and if portions of the pool can be closed due to lifeguard availability obstacles.
• Pool audit to determine possible repairs and time line more accurately for repairs with cost estimates 
• A brief discussion, that will need a deeper conversation is relating to the pool historical status.
